Choose a color and open its details
Select a swatch in the 256 Color Palette on the home page to open the Color Details panel. You can view the selected color’s HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK values, along with related colors and palette suggestions generated from that color.
The CMYK values are estimates calculated from sRGB. They do not account for your printing conditions or color profile and should not be treated as color proofing values.
Use the × button at the top right of the panel to close it and return to the palette. Select another swatch to explore a different color.
Adjust a color with HEX input or the color picker
- Select a color from the palette to open the details panel.
- Enter the code you want to explore, such as
#2563EB, in the HEX Color field. - Press Apply to switch to that color.
The field accepts three- or six-digit HEX codes. The leading # is optional, and letters can be uppercase or lowercase. If you see an input error, check the format and try again.
To adjust the color visually, use the Color Picker. Changing the current color also updates its color codes, related colors, palette suggestions, and contrast values.
Explore related colors and palette suggestions
Selecting a tint, shade, complementary color, or analogous color makes it the current color and recalculates the entire panel. The swatch marked Current is the selected color. Keep a note of your original color’s code so you can return to it using the HEX field.
For combinations of several colors, explore Color Harmonies and the 60–30–10 Palette. The 60–30–10 suggestions use the selected color as the accent. Treat these suggestions as starting points and check how they look in your actual design.
For help interpreting and using these suggestions, see the complementary and analogous colors guide and the 60–30–10 guide.
Copy a color code
To copy the current color’s code, press Copy HEX at the top of the panel. To copy a related color or palette suggestion, press its Copy button. Both actions copy the code without changing the current color, so you do not need to select the suggested swatch first.
The copied value is a six-digit HEX code, such as #2563EB. Paste it into a color setting for the website you are building or into a design tool that accepts HEX input.
If you see “Copy failed.”, the code has not been copied. You can select the HEX code shown at the top of the panel and copy it manually. To copy a suggested color manually, select its swatch first, then use the code at the top of the panel.
Check contrast with white and black text
The Contrast section shows the selected color’s contrast ratios against white and black. Use the ratios and text previews to help decide whether to place white or black text on that background.
HueRoll currently compares the selected color with white and black only. It does not compare two custom colors or display automatic AA or AAA pass/fail results. See the text contrast guide for how to read the ratios and which conditions apply.
Save and reopen colors in My Palette
Select the color you want to keep and press Save to My Palette. This saves the current color. To save a suggested color, select its swatch first to make it the current color.
Saved colors appear in My Palette on the home page. Select a saved color to reopen its details, check or copy its code, or explore further palette suggestions based on it.
Saving the same color again moves it to the front of My Palette. It does not create a duplicate.
You can save up to 64 colors. They are stored in a cookie in the browser you are using and do not automatically sync with other browsers or devices. Saved colors can disappear if you delete cookies or the cookie expires, so keep a separate record of any color codes you need for your work.
Clear My Palette
Press Clear My Palette on the home page to open a confirmation dialog. To delete all saved colors, select Clear My Palette in that dialog. Select Cancel to keep them.
This action removes all saved colors together. HueRoll currently has no option to delete individual saved colors. Clearing the palette cannot be undone, so record any codes you need before proceeding.
Troubleshoot saving
If you see “Save failed. Please enable cookies.”, check whether your browser allows cookies to be saved. If you see “My Palette is full.”, you have reached the limit on saved colors.
Record any colors you need before clearing the palette, and check that a color appears in My Palette after saving it. If the problem continues, use the contact page to report the message you saw and the steps you took.
