About This Site
HueRoll is a color tool that lets you explore colors visually and intuitively, then view information and color combinations for any selected color on a single page. Even if you do not know a color code, you can get started simply by choosing a color that catches your eye.
What You Can Do on This Site
- Find colors that interest you in a 256-color palette
- View color information such as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK
- Compare shades, tints, complementary and analogous colors, and color scheme suggestions
- Check contrast ratios against white or black and preview how text appears
- Explore any color using HEX input or the color picker
- Copy the current color or any suggested HEX code without changing the current color, and save favorites to My Palette
How to Use the Color Suggestions
HueRoll helps you compare combinations starting from one selected color. If you have no color code in mind, start with the palette. If a project already has a base color, enter its HEX code to explore related options. This lets you build on a color you already use without having to start a palette from scratch.
Suggestions are calculated by rotating hue or mixing a color with white or black. Choose candidates for backgrounds, headings, and accents, then check them in your design. The area covered by a color, nearby photographs, and the size of your text all affect how the result looks.
The HueRoll User Guide explains the controls step by step. The home page introduces the color terms shown in HueRoll and links to guides on complementary and analogous colors, the 60–30–10 suggestions, and contrast ratios using concrete examples.
About the Color Data
Color information and color scheme suggestions are calculated in your browser based on the selected color. CMYK values are reference values derived from sRGB, not color-managed proofing values based on a printing environment or color profile. Colors may appear different depending on your display and device settings.
Use the contrast ratios as a reference when evaluating the readability of text against a background color.
